UTOPIAN DREAMS
The Utopian Dreams explores the idea of searching for and seeking to fulfill one’s idealist desires. In this series of photographs, the skyline of New York City is suggestive of reinvention, constructing one’s identity, and this pervading idea of achieving/having anything. The city that never sleeps offers that—apparently. Buildings appear rigid, standing sentinel-like. Light is subdued, with details difficult to view, but with glimpses of movement and time. Color-blocking, however, serves to bring attention to a potential contradiction; that not all is as it seems. The surreal aesthetic points to the play on words in the title, we chase our dreams; but are they just a dream?
